TWINN2SET MOOCs by IFP School of IFPEN with Professor Eric Deville
The 10th Week of the Massive Online Courses regarding the European Project, Twinning to Sustainable Energy Transition (TWINN2SET) took place virtually by IFP School of IFPEN during 24/04-28/04 by the Professor at Georesources and Energy Center of IFP School, Eric Deville.
The educational program was dedicated to ‘Subsurface Gas Systems- Gas Systems of the Earth’. The courses were conducted in two parts, (i) theory and (ii) exercises and the main aspects of the week were the following:
- Introduction (Main gas systems presented in the lecture)
- Earth’s atmospheric system (Past evolution of the composition of the atmosphere, Present-day composition of the atmosphere and its interaction with hydrosphere)
- Volcanic systems (Magmatic Gas and Hydrothermal Gas)
- Non volcanic, organic matter-rich systems (Microbial Gas, Thermogenic Gas and Natural Gas Hydrates)
- Non volcanic, organic matter-starved systems (Gases generated by mantle rocks-hydrosphere interaction, Gases generated in OM-poor crustal rocks)
- Conclusion & perspectives (Including natural Hydrogen & nuclear fusion)
The main objective among others this week was to identify, the main types of natural gas found on Earth and the main gas systems and discuss about the perspectives of natural gas in terms of energy transition.
