TWINN2SET: 1st Massive Online Open Course

The first Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) by IFP School of IFPEN regarding the TWINN2SET project took place virtually between 14/11/2022 - 18/11/2022.The topic was ‘’Introduction in the Energy Transition’’.

The first Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) by IFP School of IFPEN regarding the TWINN2SET project took place virtually between 14/11/2022 - 18/11/2022. The main speaker of the online courses was Professor Jean-Pierre Deflandre from IFP School. The topic of the first MOOC was ‘’Introduction in the Energy Transition’’. Apart from the fully organized every-day presentations, an online platform with extra documents, videos and tests from IFP school was provided to the participants in order to delve into the MOOCs topic.

On the first day of the courses the role of the underground to provide and manage low carbon energy during the transition period: geothermal energy (geothermal power development), natural gas (natural gas contribution) and native H2, was presented and analyzed.

On the second day of the sessions a general discussion about energy transition took place. Important aspects such us, the emission of CO2, carbon budget and atmospheric carbon removal utilization and storage were also analyzed.

On the third day of the MOOCs, the main topic of the discussion was the role of the underground in the decarbonization of hard to abate sectors and energy storage: Carbon Capture and Storage/ Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage and air compresses systems. The carbon dioxide routes were presented such as post-combustion, pre-combustion and oxy-combustion processes. Moreover, the main plan of CO2 storage, plot projects of storage around the world and value of carbon dioxide were discussed.

Finally, the last day of the MOOCs focused on the contribution to energy efficiency and CO2 abatements in the process sector substitution pathways (e-fuels, bio-sourced materials). At the end of the last session further discussion and general questions were made from the audience.
